Getting
to Ilora.

Ilora sits inside the Masai Mara National Reserve — ten minutes from the migration crossing at the Mara River. There are two ways to arrive: by air in 45 minutes, or by road in six to seven hours. We arrange transfers for both.

By air from
Nairobi.

The simplest way to arrive. A scheduled or charter flight from Wilson Airport in Nairobi takes approximately 45 minutes and lands at Olkiombo Airstrip — ten minutes by road from Ilora. You clear the city and you are in the Mara.

Flights run daily on scheduled services and can be chartered privately. We arrange the airstrip transfer for all guests. A member of our team meets you on arrival.

By road from
Nairobi.

Approximately 280 kilometres, taking six to seven hours depending on traffic out of Nairobi and conditions on the final stretch. The drive through the Rift Valley is genuinely beautiful — one of Kenya's great scenic roads — and many guests choose it for the journey itself.

We recommend an early departure from Nairobi to avoid city traffic. Private transfers can be arranged from JKIA or your Nairobi accommodation directly to Ilora.

Road conditions
The Nairobi–Sekenani gate highway is tarmac and generally smooth — a single carriageway, so allow time for overtaking. The final hour inside the reserve is on unpaved game-drive tracks — expect some bumps, expect wildlife. That is, in fact, the point.

The Masai Mara ecosystem includes the National Reserve and surrounding conservancies. Ilora's position inside the reserve gives access to some of the most wildlife-dense areas — Topi Plains, Olpunyata Plains, and the Mara River crossing — without the density of vehicles found elsewhere in the reserve.
